Student groups on learning excursion in sunny Atlanta, Georgia, won’t want to miss a stop at this brilliant assemblage of modern displays located on the ground floor of the 1315 Peachtree Building. The Museum of Design Atlanta’s galleries comprise more than 5000 square feet of special presentations highlighting the impact of design on everyday life; MODA is quite unique in that it doesn’t host a permanent collection, nor more than one at a time. The museum strives to achieve its mission with an ever-changing series of engaging and intriguing exhibitions showcasing important achievements in the fields of design. Their “Design Conversation” program welcomes am exciting new guest speaker every month and lets visitors in on cool tricks of the trade, and the Young Explorers class lets students, aged 6-15 work in Minecraft to custom-design a 3D object and print it on a Makerbot® Replicator® 2 Desktop 3D Printer. Designing women, ages six through nine, are encouraged to express their inner architect with MODA’s Goldi Blox, and wonderful two-hour workshops led by enthusiastic LEGO robotics experts let kids of all abilities challenge themselves by building and programming LEGO robots. Additionally, the Museum offers a fun monthly Home School Day, special Educator Days and a variety of fabulous field trip and Summer Camp opportunities. Formerly known as the Atlanta International Museum of Art & Design, MODA’s objective is to advance the understanding and appreciation of design as the convergence of creativity and functionality through exhibitions, education, and programming for visitors of all ages.
