Chicago Historical Society

During your school trip to Chicago, your class may want to visit the Chicago History Museum.  There are fascinating exhibitions for the pupils to explore during the visit. The location also offers educational programs and a research facility for participants to use for research purposes. The museum showcases millions of authentic pieces of Chicago and U.S. history.

 

There are a variety of exhibitions at the Chicago History Museum. The class will find exhibits such as Vivian Maier’s Chicago, Lincoln’s Chicago, Abraham Lincoln, Unexpected Chicago, Facing Freedom, The Dioramas, Sensing Chicago, and Treasures. The Unexpected Chicago exhibit contains a collection of clothing and accessories along with thousands of archives of Chicago’s many fascinating treasures. Sensing Chicago is an interactive exhibit where the team will use their five senses to explore the city’s interesting past. Participants can do things such as ride a high-wheel bicycle, hear the Great Chicago Fire, catch a fly ball at Comiskey Park, and be a Chicago-style hot dog.

 

There are a variety of educational activities for the class to experience. They offer workshops, an audio tour, and History a` la Cart Stations. The workshops cover a range of topics and are for students in all grade levels. The History a` la Cart Stations are located throughout the museum and are where participants engage in 20 minute hands-on experiences and explore various aspects of Chicago’s unique history. For classes in grades three to five, the pupils can do activities related to topics such as the Great Chicago Fire, the Prairie Landscape, Skyscrapers, and Artifacts. The Skyscrapers station is where participants will have the chance to discover how skyscrapers are constructed and participate in building activities.
