The Holocaust is a time in history that will not soon be forgotten. The Illinois Holocaust Museum and Education center are dedicated to making sure that student remember and understand exactly what happened during the holocaust and other genocides, as well as trying to put an end to genocide all together. They do this with exhibits that honor the lives that many innocent people lost. They provide many types of educational programs for schools who visit. This is perfect because it centers on a certain age group, mostly from the 3-12 grade; making it easier for your students to follow. One exhibit featured here include Karkomi , which tells the pre-war life for the German’s, what it was like to live in the ghetto, and the concentration camps that they were sent to. This exhibit holds over 500 artifacts, documents, and photographs that are available for viewing. An even more personal touch is added to this exhibit with actual testimonies from local survivors and their story during the holocaust.
