Student groups on island expedition won’t want to miss an opportunity to explore magnificent Mount Leahi, also known as O’ahu’s legendary Diamond Head! Exciting narrated tours of the volcano begin with an introduction by an experienced nature guide; learn about volcanic creation, Hawaiian history, European discovery, early cattle ranching, and modern day military use of the “Gibraltar of the Pacific” as your group is escorted on a 763’ trek to the summit. Well-planned and convenient rest stops along the way afford perfect opportunities to photograph the landmark mountain from all the best vantage points.  Once at the top, you’ll discover cool old bunkers on the crater rim and a navigational lighthouse built in 1917, and enjoy stunning 360 degree panoramic views of beautiful Waikiki Beach, emerald green mountains and the sparkling Pacific. This memorable excursion lasts approximately three hours and is a notable accomplishment, indeed: hikers are presented with an authentic Certificate of Achievement once they’ve completed their Diamond Head expedition; early birds on tropical holiday may opt for the 6:00a.m. hike to experience the magic of the crater as the Island awakens!
