During your school trip to Chicago, you should see Cloud Gate which is a well-known sculpture located inside Millennium Park. This amazing piece of art was created by a British artist known as Anish Capoor. The sculpture weighs 110-tons. The pupils will have the opportunity to take a photo of the attraction as part of the experience.
The Cloud Gate sculpture is made of steel plates which reflect Chicago’s famous skyline. There is a 12-foot high arch which provides a “gate” to the concave chamber beneath the sculpture. Participants will have the opportunity to touch its mirror-like surface and see their image reflected from different perspectives. Cloud Gate is Anish Capoor’s first outdoor work to be installed in the United States. The sculpture was inspired by liquid mercury and is among the largest of its kind in the world. It measures 66 feet long by 33 feet high.
Anish Capoor was born in 1954. He began his distinguished career during the 1970s in London England. Over a span of 20 years, he has emerged as one of the most prolific and respected sculptors in the world. In 2004, Capoor unveiled the Cloud Gate monument which anchors Millennium Park. The internationally acclaimed artist has participated in group shows in places such as the Whitechapel Gallery, The Royal Academy and Serpentine Gallery in London, and Paris. There are public collections displayed in a variety of museums in the United States. There are collections in states such as New York, San Francisco, and Washington, D.C.
