Gatorland

“Gatorland” by Jim Pennucci

Gatorland is known internationally as the Alligator capital of the world, but is so much more than just alligators. As one of central Florida’s oldest attractions it has been providing an alternative to the more well known theme parks in the area, even today. Founded by the late Owen Godwin in 1949, it is still privately owned by his family today. With over 110 acres included within this wildlife preserve, you can enjoy several activities and attractions. The park provides an affordable family fun adventure with thousands of alligators and crocodiles to see, along with an aviary, breeding marsh with an observation tower and boardwalk for viewing, nature walk, petting zoo, swamp walk, and unique reptile shows such as Gator Wrestlin’ or Gator Jumparoo. See the up-close encounter show and the newest attraction, Critters on the Go. You can also shop at the award winning gift shop, or choose to ride on the Gatorland Express Train, even enjoy a squirt fest and cool off at the Gator Gully Splash Park during your visit.

New to the park is the Screamin’ Gator Zip Line, lead by highly trained guides. Your two hour adventure will take you along a 1,200 foot adrenaline pumping, high flying experience with some of the the finest zip line towers in the world. Some of these towers stand over seven stories tall and feature multilevel launch pads and breathtaking views above the treetops. You will launch from heights of up to 65 feet and soar across five intense zip lines ranging in length from 230 feet to more than 500 feet.
