For over 50 years the Orlando Science Center has been a place for all ages that inspires science learning for life. In January 1955 the vision for the Museum was formed by a group of visionary central Florida citizens for a small non-profit Science Museum. In 1957 the city of Orlando provided the space in Loch Haven Park where the Central Florida Museum and Planetarium first opened its doors in 1960, at this time the museum was anthropology centered and focused on the natural history of Florida and the Caribbean basin. Today the Orlando Science center occupies a beautiful 207,000 square foot facility that is architecturally distinctive and built for the future with spacious exhibit halls, nature habitats, classrooms, a theater , an observatory, science store and a cafe. The Science Center values include Integrity, Diversity/Accessibility, Community, Innovation, Commitment, and Lifelong learning for everyone.
The Science Center offers four floors where you can take part of several exciting exhibits, Galleries such as Natureworks, Dino Digs, Science Park and Kids Town, you can also enjoy live science programs, science stations, and the Crosby observatory or take part in the Discovery Lab workshops that are perfect for the ultimate school field trip. For those of you who like movies you can view one of the amazing movies like Dr. Phillips Cinedome, Rescue, Tornado Alley, and Coral Reef Adventure. You can see and hear about some of the new programs about Lightning, preparing for Hurricane season, and Planetarium shows. Structured programming ranges from on-site experiences, theatrical performances, classes and special events demonstrating how science impacts everyday life. Their goal is to be a place that helps the community prepare and embrace changes the future will bring, focusing on Early childhood education, Health and Wellness/Life Science, Technology, Earth and Space Science, and Environmental Science/Renewable Energy.
The Orlando Science Center with so much to see and view is a wonderful place to explore and have some fun and since it is an indoor facility it is even perfect for a rainy day and groups are always welcome.
