Wet ‘n Wild first opened on March 13, 1977 and was an immediate success and is Orlando’s premier water park. Even though it is the oldest water park and has been deemed the USA’s first major water park, it continues to add new rides and attractions to help bring families back year after year. Since they are open all year round with heated pools during the cooler weather this helps provide a nice alternative to some of the other theme parks in the area. Featuring 17 thrilling water-slides and attractions, each provides some vertical drops with rushing water and also offers six multi-person rides, which is more than any other water park at this time!
Wet ‘n Wild was created by George Millay, who was also the creator of SeaWorld. The World Water Park Association presented Millay with the Lifetime Achievement award, and he was given the official title of “Father of the Water Park”. In 1998, he sold the amusement park to Universal Orlando.
Fully staffed with certified lifeguards, Blastaway Beach is the largest family water play area in Florida. Also within the park is the wave pool and the relaxing lazy river. You may choose to rent a cabana or rent lockers to store your personal items during your stay.
Some of the more thrilling rides include The Black Hole which is a space adventure ride, Brain Wash, Mach 5, The Surge, Der Stuka, and Bomb Bay to name a few. Open from May to September is the Wake Zone where riders can practice their wake-boarding or water skiing skills on three separate lake attractions. Also located within the park are several full sized courts to play beach volleyball! If hunger strikes, you might want to try one of the restaurants such as Bubba BBQ & Chicken, Manny’s Pizza, the Surf Grill, Carnival Treats or George’s Famous Ice Cream.
