Six Flags Fiesta Texas

“Six Flags Fiesta Texas” by Chris Hagerman

Starting life in 1990 simply as “Fiesta Texas”, the property was acquired by the Six Flags conglomerate and transformed into Six Flags Fiesta Texas in 1996. Six Flags implemented their trademark business plan and Fiesta Texas quickly became the largest and one of the most popular parks of the nationwide entertainment giants in the United States. It also served to solidify San Antonio as the predominate vacation destination in the Southwest. When you enter Six Flags Fiesta Texas, you know that you are going to have the time of your life!
For the thrill seeker, there is no shortage of world class roller coasters. The Park boasts seven fully loaded coasters including the Rattler which, when it debuted in 1992, was the tallest and fastest wooden roller coaster in the world. It reaches a top speed of 64mph and features a long tunnel that leads you through the wall of the old quarry on which the park is built. The Poltergeist launches it’s riders from 0-60 in 3 seconds and they don’t get a brake until the end of the ride after 4 inversions through a myriad of twists and turns in the “spaghetti bowl” featuring cobra rolls, sidewinders and corkscrews. The Goliath opened in 2008 and has since become a favorite that dominates the entrance to the park. This steel inverted roller coaster suspends it’s riders under the track to experience its 5 intense inversions at a max of 4g’s. The park also features the Road Runner, the Superman, and Pandemonium.

Roller Coasters aren’t everyone’s cup or tea and the designers of the park certainly didn’t forget about those of us with less solid constitutions. There are over thirty other rides and attractions in the park including bumper cars, go karts, wild rapid rides, Ferris wheels, and marry-go-rounds. Countless fair style games, sports challenges and kiddie rides.
When you need a break from the action or just a quick snack you can stop by one of the 18 food vendors or take a longer rest at one of the full service restaurants. From nachos to BBQ brisket, there is something to satisfy any craving! You can also cool off with some Ben and Jerry’s ice cream, or tear into a fresh hot funnel cake!
In addition, Fiesta Texas offers several shows throughout the day. These shows have been awarded Amusement Today’s Golden Ticket Award for “best theme park shows in the country” for ten consecutive years! Opening in 2005, Xcelleration quickly became one of the most popular among the patrons. Xcelleration features professional athletes from the sports of skateboarding, and BMX. Bungee artists and acrobatics round out this exciting exhibition of skill. Xcelleration is recognized as one of the best in the industry earning the accolade the big “E” for best sports show in 2005. Other award winning shows include Lone Star Nights, Rockin’ at Rockville High; celebrating 20 years in 2012 and new in 2012; Country Chart Toppers.
White Water Bay lies just northwest of the main park and boasts 13 distinct attractions. Included are 5 huge water slides, a float river, a family style rapids ride, and an enormous one of a kind Texas Shaped wave pool! There is also Splash Water Springs for the young’uns!
