During your school trip to Virginia Beach you may want to visit the Atlantic Wildfowl Heritage Museum. There are fascinating exhibits for the students to observe and experience. There is also a gift shop where students can buy a souvenir. Upon entering the museum, you will find an introductory exhibit where the group can learn about the Back Bay wildlife using an interactive computer. There is also a diorama of Back Bay wildlife, antique and contemporary decoys, and a mural of the Atlantic Flyway in the fascinating exhibit. The Main Gallery contains interesting carvings of a variety of animals that were made by talented individuals such as Al Brandnert and Doctor William and David Turner. Al made decorative carvings such as the Pintail Pair. The group will also see a Bufflehead taking flight, a Belted Kingfisher, and a brown pelican. The Main Gallery also contains the Mason Decoy Factory which is one of the popular displays in the gallery. The students will also have the opportunity to take in the sight of several species of birds. For example, you may encounter creatures such as Loons, Gannets, Scoters, Buffleheads, and the Bald Eagle. The museum has a full list of all of these unique and amazing animals. The museum gift shop is a great place for your group to browse. The store sells wildfowl decoys, songbirds and shore birds. There are beautiful carvings which range from antiques, contemporary antiques, to decorative carvings. Students of all ages will enjoy visiting the museum and gaining knowledge about the wildfowl and famous carvings to purchase.
