During your school trip to Virginia Beach you may want to see the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel. This unique crossing has seen over 116 million vehicles cross since its opening in 1964. It is an engineering wonder of the modern world and is convenient for travelers. Students of all ages will enjoy the breathtaking view of the water and landscape surrounding the bridge-tunnel. Your students will have the opportunity to observe some beautiful birds on the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel. For example, you may see fascinating birds such as gulls, terns, brown pelicans, skimmers, and great blue herons. The group can take some time and enjoy watching these magnificent creatures. The Bridge has a peer where the group will find a gift shop and a quality restaurant. The students will also have the opportunity to catch fish off of the peer. For example, you may catch bluefish, trout, croaker, and flounder. The peer is located about four miles from the shore. The restaurant offers a variety of sandwiches including the mouthwatering grilled crab cake sandwich. The students may have the opportunity to see fascinating military and commercial ships while on the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel. The bridge measures about 17.6 miles from shore to shore. It is comprised of a series of bridges and tunnels. There are also four man made islands for the group to explore.
